EXPERIENCE A RAINBOW OF COLOR OVERLOOKING THE PACIFIC OCEAN
AT THE FLOWER FIELDS® THIS SPRING
Scenic Southern California Tourist Attraction Opens March 11
CARLSBAD, CA (November 1, 2005) – Red, orange, yellow, green and
purple are not just the colors of the rainbow, but also the vibrant sea of
color that blooms every spring at The Flower Fields® in Carlsbad, Calif.,
near San Diego. The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch will once again greet
visitors with an abundance of color beginning early March 2006. For eight
weeks each spring, the renowned Giant Tecolote Ranunculus burst into bloom
and transform the 50-plus acre landscape into ribbons of brilliant color
that attract over 150,000 visitors.
The Flower Fields entertains and educates visitors of all ages from morning
to dusk with flourishing gardens and community activities. In addition to
taking in the sea of color, guests can enjoy an open-air wagon ride through
the fields via an antique tractor. Celebrations and special events are also
held including Kids’ Day, Arts & Crafts Fair, National Volunteer Day,
Bluegrass Festival and World Tai Chi / Qigong Day.
“The Flower Fields has become a must see southern California attraction
because it’s a place of serene splendor and a colorful inspiration for
people’s own gardens,” said Michael Cardosa, general manager of The Flower
Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. “The Flower Fields is a real working farm and the
only commercial ranunculus ranch in the world that is open to the public.”
Other colorful features include the All-America Rose Selections (AARS)
Garden and Walk-of-Fame. On display at the AARS garden are more than 150
rose varieties and over 80 varieties of the American Rose Society’s
award-winning miniature roses. The AARS Walk of Fame displays an abundance
of more than 180 rose garden award-winners since 1940. The Flower Fields is
one of four AARS test gardens in California selected for its climate and
growing standards. To ensure being distinguished as an AARS garden each
year, The Flower Fields displays new roses from various rose breeders to
test for disease resistance, color, fragrance and endurance.
Other visual delights are also coming to The Flower Fields. An
internationally recognized figure in the art of sand sculpting, Gerry Kirk
has created a life-sized, sand-sculpture that visually tells the story of
“The Ole Red Tractor,” a fictional tractor that plowed The Flower Fields
every year at planting season. New this year is a patriotic Sweet Pea Maze
and a historic Ecke Poinsettia Display in twelve rare, and unusual
varieties.
The Flower Fields’ Theme Gardens are a showcase of colorful perennials and
annuals, beautifully displayed in various thematic gardens. The displays of
spring flowers are as instructive as they are picturesque. Each illustrates
how color can be used and enjoyed in gardens at home.
To encourage visitors to enhance their personal home and gardens with The
Flower Fields varieties, The Flower Fields has once more partnered with
Armstrong Garden Centers where visitors can shop and purchase Flower Fields
brand products in its 33,000 square-foot facility located at the site.
Open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from March 11th –
April 1st; and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April 2nd – May 7th, The Flower
Fields provides free parking, restroom facilities, and handicapped
accessibility for guest convenience. The cost is $8 for adults, $7 for
