Bryn Punt/Liz Wilkins Surround Yourself in Spectacular Spring Time Color at The Flower FieldsPopular Southern California Tourist Attraction Opens March 12CARLSBAD, Calif. (November 5, 2004) – The rainbow-colored hillside of The Flower Fields® at Carlsbad Ranch will begin greeting its visitors with an abundance of color beginning March 12,2005. For eight weeks each Spring, the renowned Giant Tecolote Ranunculus burst into bloom and transform the 50-plus acre landscape into a sea of vibrant color stretching as far as the eye can see. The Flower Fields entertains and educates more than 150,000 visitors each year with the flourishing gardens and community activities. World renown sand sculptor Gerry Kirk will craft a life-sized, hand-sculpted creation especially for The Flower Fields this year. In addition, kids will love the adventure of finding their way through a giant maze made of fragrant sweet peas in the patriotic colors of the American flag. "The Flower Fields is a working farm and the only commercial ranunculus field in the world that is open to the public," said Michael Cardosa, general manager of The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. "We invite visitors to be transported to a place of beauty and serenity, to broaden their horticultural experience and to provide home gardeners with the colorful inspiration for their own yards." Other activities to experience throughout the season include and open-air wagon ride through the fields via an antique tractor offering spectacular views of the colorful fields that stretch to the Pacific Ocean. Other colorful features include the All-America Rose Selections (AARS) Garden and Walk-of-Fame. On display at the AARS garden are more than 150 rose varieties and over 80 varieties of the American Rose Society's award-winning miniature roses. The AARS Walk of Fame displays and abundance of more than 180 rose garden award-winners since 1940. The Flower Fields is one of four AARS test gardens in California selected for its climate and growing standards. To ensure performance in the region each year, The Flower Fields displays new roses from various rose breeders to test for disease resistance, color, fragrance and endurance. The Flower Fields' Display gardens are a showcase of perennials and annuals, beautifully displayed in various colorful gardens. The displays of spring flowers in the quaint cottage garden, cutting garden, sun garden and shade garden are as instructive as they are beautiful. Each illustrate how color can be used to create a colorful home landscape. To encourage visitors to enhance their home and gardens with The Flower Fields flowers, The Flower Fields has once again partnered with Armstrong Garden Centers where visitors can shop and purchase Flower Fields brand products in its 33,000 square foot facility located at the site. The Flower Fields brand is comprised of a marketing alliance between the Paul Ecke Ranch, the world's leading grower of poinsettia and annuals, Yoder Brothers, Goldsmith Seeds and Plants and Fischer USA.
